William L. "Bill" Bailey, 91, passed away Sunday June 3, 2018, at North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point.
Mr. Bill, was born June 22, 1926, in Artesia, the son of the late John Hilliard and Nellie Kate Perry Bailey. Mr. Bill was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II as a part of Occupation Forces in Germany. After the war, he worked at McGuire Jewelers in Macon. He was a talented repairman of watches and clocks, which he even continued to do even after he went to work for GM&O Railroad. He worked for GM&O Railroad until his retirement. He took care of his mother and sister. Every year, it was a must that he have a new car. He was meticulous with his personal appearance, always looking sharp. He was proficient at most any skill he undertook. The term "jack of all trades" applied to him. He was a member of Artesia United Methodist Church. He married Sue Pearson Bailey on Oct. 6, 2004. in West Point.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Bailey Combs and her husband, Joe; two brothers: E. H. Bailey and his wife, Sadie and John Bailey and his wife, Nita. Funeral services are 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 5, 2018, from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. James Towery officiating and assisted by Rev. Danny Avery. Burial will follow in Artesia Cemetery.
Visitation is noon - 2 p.m. today, Tuesday, at Calvert Funeral Home. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Pearson Bailey of West Point; step-daughter, Paula Smith (Larry) of West Point: two step-sons: Jasper Lummus, Jr. (Pat) of Vicksburg and Robert Lummus (Carol) of West Point: a step-grandson, Curtis Smith (Faith) of Caledonia: a nephew, Eugene Bailey (Elizabeth) of West Point: a great-niece, Julia Bailey Stephenson (John); and three great-great nephews: Bailey, John Douglas, and Ethan Stephenson.
Pallbearers are Jasper Lummus, Jr., Robert Lummus, Larry Smith, Curtis Smith, Eugene Bailey, Wayne Ray, and Sammy Pearson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Current and Former Employees of Main Street Market and Restaurant, Staff of North Mississippi Medical Center in West Point, and the Staff of West Point Community Living Center.
